New Bowers Distribution and Training Facility
The Bowers Metrology Group has recently opened a new distribution and training facility in Shanghai, China. The impressive 2,500 square metre facility will serve as the Chinese distribution hub for the company’s bore gauging products that are manufactured in Bowers’ hi-tech manufacturing plant situated in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Previously, Bowers distributed their products throughout China via a technical dealership network, with each individual dealer having to contend with often lengthy and cumbersome import procedures. Bowers’ new centralised facility means that dealers are now able to order directly from the stock held by Bowers Shanghai and often receive next day delivery on many items. Reflecting the importance of this growing marketplace to Bowers, a staff of 29 people has been recruited, enabling the company to provide excellent localised customer service, with a repair and service division planned for later this year.
The new Shanghai facility was the venue for Bowers’ recent Asia Pacific region technical sales training seminar. Customers from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia attended the in-depth three-day seminar, all experiencing the benefit of hands-on training with the Bowers products.
Steve White, Group MD, enthused “We are extremely serious about further expanding our sales coverage and technical back-up in what is a very important region to Bowers, and our new facility gives us an excellent base to do so. Previously our customers had to make lengthy flights to the UK for such in-depth training and they are now of course able to travel here in just a couple of hours and stay in the same time zone.”
With exports currently accounting for 79% of company turnover, Bowers plan to expand the new facility further in the near future, with Bowers Shanghai acting as a distribution base for the company’s new range of Moore & Wright products.
